[ Scheherazade did not have any intentions of sitting in the tavern proper. However, upon seeing Akira, she takes pause before hesitantly heading over to him. She's wearing an outfit from Ankheen, which is good for hiding her new tail, and her hair is doing an adequate job of hiding her ears - though the furry, rounded edges are visible. The dusky markings of a clouded leopard, however, are much more difficult to hide. ]

Is this seat taken?

[ She would not impose herself on him if he didn't agree, but her elf owl daemon has other ideas and decides to hop onto the table anyway. ]

[ He waves a hand, he doesn't seem to mind even if her owl is pushy. There's no noticeable animal traits from what she can see, but he has his hood up even in the dark confines of the tavern.

Nagako peeks out from where she's curled around the bar stool in mamushi form, bobbing her head as if to say hi. ]

The best part of a bar is the company, according to my Aunt.

You should be careful of the company you keep in this place.

[ she is both solemn and concerned, and hesitates before she speaks again. ]

Although, I should take my own advice, too.

[ There's something amused in his voice. ]

[ She hesitates again. ]

It's not just you.

I don't blame you. But you're better off trying to figure out how to defend yourself than avoiding everyone.

That is why I am sitting here with you. My fear may be unfounded, but deep down, I know that not everyone is looking for a chance to kill. It is lonely, being away from everyone, and perhaps I just want to believe that I will be lucky and avoid death. But another part of me is still afraid of the possible betrayal of getting close to someone who is not as they appear.

[ djinni decides to hop down and see what nagako is up to. hewwo. ]

...I'm sorry, I don't know why I told you that.

[ Nagako has uncurled a bit from the stool and is peeking out to the side, and looks up at djinni, her tongue flitting in and out. ]

...it's the kind of crap people say at bars, huh? [ Akira takes a sip from his mug where he's nursing a beer. ] Whadya' want to drink?

Yes, I suppose the atmosphere got the better of me.

[ lol yeah nice recovery sche. ]

I am not picky, but something sweet would be more to my preference.

[ There's something of a smile from Akira. He's been there before, for sure. ]

I doubt they'd have midori...a cosmo? [ Mostly talking to himself, he flags down a bartender who has no idea what a cosmo is. Scowls, turns to Sche. ]

Do you trust me?

[ She has to really think about her answer. But, if he was going to do anything untrustworthy - he doesn't seem like he'd ask. ]

Yes. I do.

Gimme a sec. [ And then he hops over the bar and just goes about making one himself. Nagako slithers up from the stool the bar counter proper so she's not too far from him.

The bartender is just staring at him. ]

Ah, please- [ oh no there he goes.

djinni, too, hops back up to Observe. he seems far less bothered by what's going on, but also, he's an owl. ]

[bloodread]

[ Anyone who tries to interrupt him gets a death glare, but it doesn't take him long to slide her a cosmopolitan. It looks exactly as you would expect, if you knew what a cosmo was.

He hops back over the bar. ]

I'll still pay for it even if I did the labor for them.

[ That's all she can really say about that! ]

I will have to repay your kindness somehow, no matter how unexpected.

[ She takes a sip. ]

This tastes pretty good. I've never had one before.

Don't worry about it. My friend says they're girly drinks, but they're fun to make.

[ He takes a well deserved sip of his beer. ]

You are't the one drinking it, I don't think it matters how 'girly' it may be. Is this a talent that you learned from your home?

[ He nods at that, because she's right. ]

Yeah, my aunt owns a bar so I bartend when she's too busy to kick me out.

That sounds like quite the interesting profession. You must meet a lot of interesting people?

I guess, but that's not my job. I make my money by fighting in the underground.

[ This might be the only time Sche will see Akira grin. ]

[ well. she'll take it, because it feels like maybe he trusts her to be able to open up even a little! ]

I'm a high school student, but I gotta pay the rent somehow. And I'm good at it, and it's fun.

I would not want to put you in a position where you could be injured on my behalf. You may be skilled, but I could not be so selfish where I ask you to be hurt. I got a small fraction of my abilities back, so hopefully...

[ another sip. she doesn't want to know if that'll be enough. ]
